We – 39 students of the 3DK and 3EK and our teachers Prof. Kornfehl, Prof. Knaus and Prof. Peck – started our adventure at 04:30 in the morning of 23 April since the flight departed at 07:30. Once in Cambridge, we were welcomed by our host families. It took us a while to get used to the different way of life: small rooms, cold houses and school starting at nine 😊. Most of our host families were great, taking good care of us and talking to us a lot.
Every morning we had classes with the native speakers Dan, Luke and Louise and the school provided sandwiches or pizza slices, fruit, water and crisps for lunch. In the afternoon and some evenings, a lot of activities were offered. Some of them were a regular part of the programme, others were optional. But most of us enjoyed taking part in them. We made a walking tour of Cambridge, visited King’s College and its impressive chapel, the Fitzwilliam Museum and Great St. Mary’s Church. We interviewed people in town and made a photo treasure hunt, which was great fun. Moreover, we went punting on the river Cam, enjoyed Fish and Chips in a famous pub as well as Afternoon Tea in a fancy tearoom.
On Saturday, we were in London, where we saw the most famous sights: the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, the London Eye, Westminster Abbey, St. James’s Park, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square and Piccadilly Circus. After two interesting – and disgusting – hours at the London Dungeon, we could choose between shopping on Oxford Street, visiting the Emirates Stadium of Arsenal or further sightseeing at King’s Cross (Platform 9¾), the Tower of London and Tower Bridge. We spent the last day in Windsor, where we visited the famous castle and the town, which was getting ready for the coronation of King Charles III on 6 May. All in all, it was an awesome, unforgettable week!
